On today’s throwback review, we are going back ten years to pull out a hit song. 2009/2010 was a great year for Nigerian music, as it marked the beginning of a new era for the Nigerian music industry. Bigiano’s Shayo was arguably the biggest song of 2009 and it spanned into 2010. The afrobeat song was produced by renowned music star, Sheyman.

Positives

The instrumental was an instant hit. Sheyman infused a bouncy dancehall drum riffs with an afro-pop piano chord. and subtle melodies playing here and there. Bigiano sang smoothly with nice flows and clear vocals. Lyrical, the song made its point. Bigiano sang about how hard his parties are and why you have to be a hardcore party freak to get invited. His rhymes were archaic, even for 2009, but his vocal texture and timbre made up for that.
