Ycee is back with a new track titled Gold. Gold is a superficial song about the gold chains on his wrist and neck, basically, it is a song of self-eulogy. The track is not your typical Hip Hop song one would expect from Ycee. In fact, one can argue that there is not a scintilla of Hip Hop in the song; the song is more of Afrobeat and Afropop.
The song starts with Ycee making some declarations, some we are quite conservative about. We did like the instrumentals that accompanied the intro of the song.
Ycee did a lot of filtering on his voice however, he still did manage to sound decent. In fact, you will not really know unless you pay attention to this. Generally, the vocals are decent but flawed.
The melody of the song is interesting, at least for the first few times. we liked the flow and the rich Afropop sound of the song.
Gold is a superficial song and nothing deep was expected from the lyrics of the song. The structure of the lyrics is poor also and it does not have any proper storyline. To make matter worse the lyrics are quite repetitive.
There were times we struggled to hear Ycee clearly, we just weren't hearing him.
The song gets boring after a while, we quickly got tired and burned out during the review of the song.
