Spray me the money

2011, the year Wizkid officially launched his Superstar album. There were at least five hit tracks in that album (heck almost every track on that album was a hit going by today’s standards. Pakurumo is just one of the over successful singles in the Superstar Album. The album that ended up making Wizkid a superstar. The real beginning of his musical career. And Who would have thought he would have reached his current musical height. Pakurumo is basically a track about parties and erm, you guessed right girls.

Positives

Pakurumo starts with heavy drum-instrumentals and Wizkid's vocal intro. The two sounds blended well. The intro of the song is engaging enough, and from it, we could tell how interesting the song was going to be.
Although the song primarily is about girls, parties and dance, Wizkid was able to sneak in a couple of punchlines which resonated with us. The lyrical structure is decent.
We could tell Wizkid put a lot of effort into the vocals of the song. This was when Wizkid was very passionate and hungry for the top. His vocals were clean, and clear, we could hear him well.
The melody o the song is where all the sauce. Wizkid of then depended more on Afropop than he does these days. Pakurumo ended up being a blend of Afropop and Afrobeat. The melody is tuneful and memorable. It is also quite engaging.
Another engaging thing about Pakurumo is the rhythm. It is a very danceable song with a rhythmic and angular sound.

Negatives

Pakurumo is primarily a song about parties, dance and girls. This means the song does not have much lyrical depth. The song lacks any proper plot development.
Pakurumo was mostly sung in Yoruba. This means it would have been difficult for some potential non-speaking Yoruba fans to understand what Wizkid was singing.

Bottom Line

Pakurumo is a classic and it was around for quite a while then. The song managed to bring back a rush of nostalgic feel-good memory. This simply means the song was able to resonate with us to the extent that it reached into our memory bank.
