Skuki have released a new single, the first of this year titled: “Check In Check Out”. They recently got featured on a DJ Cuppy (is she even a DJ anymore?) song we reviewed recently titled, Werk.
The intro beat is a catchy one, however, we feel it sounds way too familiar. Like we have heard before or something very similar on a gazillion other songs. The intro of vocals to the was progressive but nothing special. However, we did like the seamless intro.
The melody of the song is just there. The only way it sounds memorable;e is perhaps the overuse of this kind of beat. We did not really enjoy the melody of the song. It felt too plain and blatant for us.
The vocals of the song were just there. The only redeeming thing about the vocals was that they were clear and audible enough for us to hear their jargons.
Let us start by saying we did not enjoy this song at all during the review. In fact, we tempted to listen to the song as little as possible during the review.
The lyrics of the song lacks any lyrical depth and meaning. In fact, we found ourselves struggling to get the message of the song. When we did, we realised it was quite vulgar and well, not your everyday lyrics. Furthermore, the lyrics were scanty and way too repetitive, the song would have done better as freestyle or something like that. It didn't feel like they put a lot of effort into the writing and it just came out wack, to be honest.
This was a shoddy job from Skuki and their team. They should have spared no effort in producing a quality song for us seeing that they have not been around for a while and they have not had a hit song for an even longer time. If they continue this way, they will continue to fade out of relevance and not even a fantastic beat will save their careers (not like the beat in this song was fantastic anyway).
