A groovy dancehall tune
2
Skales has carved a niche for himself over the years, after his failed stint as a rapper. He has earned a name for himself as one of the good or B-list acts in the industry. The Nigerian musician decided to seek the help of Tanzanian superstar ‘Harmonize’ for this record titled ‘Oyoyo’ Oyoyo is a dancehall tune with a touch of the ‘Bongo flava’ genre. The song is produced by Chopstix and it was recorded in a hotel room in Lagos, which has become a popular venue for international collaborations.
Chopstix came through with a very bouncy instrumental that gives you the urge to move your body or, at least, nod your head to the rhythm.
The whole song was too precise and the lyrics were too shabby. I don’t know what Skales was thinking when he came up with the chorus and hook, but it sounded like a very boring nursery rhyme that is meant for toothless babies. At least I could rock a baby to the song. Skales just combined two African slangs and repeated it a few times and birth a very trashy chorus. The melody was horrendous and sounded monotonic.
It might be best you sit this one out, as there is a barrage of new songs out. You wouldn’t want to waste your time on this song.
Skales could have done better with this song.
