A Love Song Dedicated to a Chizoba

SONIC SOUL!

“Something is killing me slowly
And I’m feeling so lonely
Now I’m looking up to God o
Eyeh yeh
Paid my tithe, I paid my dues
See distractions everywhere
Now me feeling emotions
Ehh”

Rudeboy and Mr P seem to be in some kind of subtle competition. Mr P recently released Zombie only for Rudeboy to be hot on his heels. This is not the first time this is happening. We want to believe that it is no coincidence that they also both featured different dancehalls artistes at the same time.

Positives

The song starts like your typical PSquare love song. It reminded us of their song titled Oyinye, ahh, such Nostalgia. Rudeboy's intro vocal performance was not bad at all.
The lyrics of the song obviously talks about a girl called Chizobe that he is in love with. We were able to get the storyline of the song without stressing.
The melody of the song is not bad. A slow tempo love song with beautiful vocal rendition.
The vocal rendition from Rudeboy was quite filled with emotions, almost like a true life event.

Negatives

The song gave us this eerie atmosphere which may not really be a bad thing but then again, it's been a while songs like this have become major hits in the Nigerian Music industry. We are not sure if this song will have much staying power as songs these days have been dominated by the afrobeat, Afro-pop, dancehall. heck, even Afro-fusion is more popular these days.
The song lacks a video to help push it to even more relevance.

Bottom Line

While this is a great song, by all means, it feels like the times have changed from when songs like this used to be hits to when they are just now relic from the past. But then again, the Nigerian Music industry is quite volatile and songs like this can just become the trendy thing in the blink of an eye.
