SONIC SOUL!

“Hey! Yeah! Hey!
Skrrrr! (I love you) Skrrrr!
With my heart and my soul I look in your eyes
And the way that I feel girl I can’t deny
With my gang and my dawgs we live in the wild
Girl I send a lotta texts buh you don’t reply
Why? (Yahy)
I just wonder why, I just wonder why
And I travelled miles
Girl I send a lotta texts buh you don’t reply
Why? (Yahy)
I just wonder why, I just wonder why
And I travelled miles
Damn girl you know I travelled miles
I want you in my life, girl I want you in my life
Even if it’s for a little while
I wanna see you smile, girl I wanna see you smile
See you smile (Yah), For a while (Yah)
Can you try (Yah), Hold you tight (Yaahy)
Damn girl you know I travelled miles
I want you in my life, girl I want you in my life
Even if it’s for a little while
I wanna see you smile, girl I wanna see you smile
See you smile (Yah), For a while (Yah)
Can you try (Yah), Hold you tight (Yaahy)”

Rema seems to be trying a lot of things to get his own trademark sound. This time, his new soundtrack, “Why” is a trap song.

Positives

Why starts with a classic RNB feeling, the vocals and the instrumentals were engaging and they did make us stick around for the remaining part of the song.
The song is a love song, the lyrics are not bad, it does tell a realistic and relatable storyline. The structure of the lyrics is also not bad.
The vocals of the song are great, we enjoyed Rema's performance as we were doing our review of the song, he was expressive and passionate.
The melody of the song was great, from contemporary RNB to trap, we loved the rollercoaster journey. The song was tuneful and memorable and this is one of the first songs like this we will be hearing from a Nigerian musician.

Negatives

The vocals of Why seemed over-processed with too much filter or perhaps it was the autotune. Sometimes we struggled to hear the actual words he was saying.

Bottom Line

A lovely tune from Rema, slightly marred by the quality of vocals but aside from that, we had no other issues with the song. We recommend this song especially as it is a much needed fresh breath in the industry
