SONIC EXPERIENCE!
Lyrics: Rema – Boulevard
Yeah, bad girl she told me she don’t like me
She’s an animal she just wanna bite me
She don’t even wanna hear me she don’t text me,
Yeah because I couldn’t afford a Nike
All the niggas they be tryna imitate me
Tryna shoot at me but they can never take me
She be laughing at me ’cause I wear the same jeans on a mining,
Coulda be my wifey
‘Cause she like another nigga in the boulevard‘Cause she like another nigga in the boulevard
‘Cause she like another nigga in the boulevard, yeah
‘Cause she like another nigga in the boulevardAnd I thought a nigga took her to the cinema
Are you feeling her? Are you kissing her?
I’m pissed off ‘finna cause a holocaust
I’m pissed off ‘finna cause a holocaust
I don’t need that, Monalisa, and I miss her, no picture
Had her pretty looking like a sunflower,
Girl if I call you will you answer?Like Bruce Wayne, like Bruce Wayne
Mhen I got the money looking like am Bruce Wayne
Girl it’s too late, girl it’s too late
‘Finna let you go like a loose chain
Bad girl she just told me she don’t like me,
She’s an animal she just wanna bite me
She don’t even wanna hear me she don’t text me,
Yeah because I couldn’t afford a Nike
All the niggas they be tryna imitate me,
They try to wanna take me,
Uh, wanna take me
No, no way can’t take me
(Please don’t go)
(Please don’t go)
(Please don’t go
Rema, the Mavin wonderboy is at it again after enjoying so much success and fanfare in the limelight with his previous track, Dumebi. This time with a full EP titled Freestyle EP. Boulevard is the first track on the EP. Boulevard is a love-themed song in which Rema talks about a certain girl he liked when he was broke (he could not afford Nike sneakers and wore the same jeans back then) but now that he’s been enjoying some success she seems to be giving him some attention. However, Rema insisted that it was too late and she was just an opportunist.
We really liked the intro of the song, from a subtle and serene instrumental playing to Rema's singing. It is a unique scene and it's not something we are used to in the Nigerian music industry.
Boulevard is strictly a love song. Rema talks about his experience before he became popular. We cannot help but feel that it is actually a true life experience, it's n coincidence that he sag this after he became popular. We were able to empathise with him and the song did strike a chord within us.
Rema's vocals were decent throughout the song, we did like his rendition, he was as clear as could be and we had no issues with the quality of his vocals after production.
The melody of the song is tuneful and memorable, we did like the melody during the review. We loved the Hip Hop style integrated into the song.
For some strange reasons, it did take us a while to actually get what the song was all about, I mean we did know that it was a love song, however, for some reasons, we were just not connecting the dots, that was until we took a look at the lyrics. This may actually be the case for most listeners out there.
A decent attempt by Rema, he seems to be trying a lot of things and sounds, perhaps he is still trying to find his sound or he is just that talented? Only time will tell.
