It was a very huge surprise when Rema dropped his mixtape in the early hours of Friday the 6th of October. We thought that after two projects in the space of six months, the best we would get are features. Well, we thought wrong, as Rema drops a 4 track mixtape titled ‘Bad Commando’. The first track of the mixtape takes the same name as the mixtape itself. Bad Commando is an Afro pop record produced by Baby Fresh.

Positives

The song started with a guitar loop that sounds like 'old skool' R&B, but when the Afro percussion came in, it switched the vibe immediately. Rema’s vocals were clear, but it sounded like he was using his nasal voice. His melody choice was amazing as he was switching from minor notes to diminished notes perfectly; making it sound like a musical scene from an Indian movie. The only negative is the length of the song, but it left us yearning for more. Rema doesn’t even have to use words anymore. He could just hum some gibberish with sweet melody and it would sound pleasing to the ear. He has perfected his unique style and nothing about him sounds like Wizkid, so let’s stop the comparison.
