Phyno recently announced the release of his new album titled “Deal With It”. Ride for you is just one of the many tracks in the album. As is expected it’s a love song and he features the newly engaged 30 Billion Gang leader, Davido himself. This is not a rap song. This is a highlife track. We felt like we should just put out that disclaimer before we proceed with the review of the song. The song was produced by Sourlarge.
We liked the intro beat of the song. It utilised some indigenous instrumentals mixed some Western sounds. Phyno starts the vocals of the song and it was not bad really.
Ride for you is a love song in which Phyno seemed to be able to now afford her bride price. He confesses that she was always there for him when he had nothing. Therefore, now that he has money, he will ride for her and stay with her. This is just the perfect song for Davido who's currently steeped in so much love. Also, for the first time Davido didn't talk about his money (we he still talked about money, so what a bummer).
The song personifies David's current emotions and perhaps even Phyno's.
We liked the vocals of the song. Phyno delivered in his vocal performance and so did Davido. We don't think there's any song that Davido has had a poor vocal performance. He may not be able to reach the highest notes because of his relatively limited range. However, he constantly kills his range, making himself a specialist. We had no issues hearing what they were both singing. The quality of the voices in the song is top notch.
The melody of the song is rich. Deeply steeped in the Igbo-highlife sound. We liked the rich indigenous sound of the melody. The melody didn't seem to wane or water down after a while. It managed to maintain it's allure at a reasonable rate.
The only problem is that Phyno sang a sizable part of the track in Igbo, even Davido went ahead to sing in Igbo. This may be difficult for none Igbo speaking fans to understand. However, this does not not mean you cannot still enjoy the song.
