“Girl you bad [you bad]
You garrit [you garrit]
Am really really hoping you will call me
I wanna be your champion lover
And I won’t take time (oh no)
Am coming [real quick], I no go really para if ’em hate me
You just dey for my mind”
Peruzzi recently released an EP (Extended Playlist), titled Heartwork. Champion Lover is one of the songs in the EP. It quite a unique song and we are not really sure how we feel about. With all the fusions and disconnects in the song.
We laud Peruzzi for their attempt in this song. It is very original but perhaps too adventurous.
The instrumentals did well to keep up with the tempo of the song.
An array of instrumentals starts the song. The intro is quite busy and may be disconcerting for some people. It really got us wondering what was going on. It was like they were unable to decide how they wanted to start because it looked like there were two different intros mashed up to one which produced a not so great combo.
The song is mostly about a girl they hope that they become lovers. While it was clear this is a love song. The message is poor and the lyrics are just everywhere without any proper structure.
The melody of the song is like a roller coaster ride and we cannot say we enjoyed it. It was a love and hate affair for us. We enjoyed the song when it had a steady rhythm, however, when it started to change back and forth, it was not a good experience. We just mostly felt out of place
