“You said your love is divine
(Girl, yes my love is divine)
I’m waiting for you
(Been waiting and waiting)
And if your love is divine
(Girl, Yes my love is divine)
Then show me the proof
(‘n’ I’ma show ya)”
In case you are also wondering who Odunsi (The Engine) is, we also had to read up about him here. Some may say he is an alternative singer and some will call him a pop/Afropop singer while others may say his style is RnB or even Afro-Fusion. This just goes to prove the versatility of this new and upcoming act that recently got signed by International record label, Universal Music.
This song is a love song that is quite different from what we are used to hearing in Nigeria (now you know why he is being tagged an Alternative singer).
Let's start with the melody of the song, it was as smooth as silk, from the very beginning we could tell the song was a tuneful one. Just about everything about the melody and rhythm of the song sounded so pleasant to our auricular senses.
The vocals of the song are perhaps the most compelling and engaging part of the song, we enjoyed every bit of it, from the beginning to the end. We felt the distinctive feeling that Odunsi and Shola King (the backup singer) put into the song, even Davido's vocals were a welcome addition in the chorus, it gave us a unique blend of sounds.
The beat was an awesome one, especially the intro, it made us feel the depth of the song more. It was a creative and smooth experience for us.
While we enjoyed every part of the song (almost), Davido'spart seemed kind of disconnected and it disrupted the melody of the song. No, we are not talking about the chorus, we are talking about Verse 2, well, only the beginning part of the verse anyway. Aside from that, we did not see anything wrong with the song.
