A Love Song
2
SONIC SOUL!
“She said to me …
Take a break for me, don’t you ever pause
You’re so far away, you don’t ever call
Waiting patiently, we just need to talk
Take a break for me, take a break for me
Take a break for me, don’t you ever pause
You’re so far away, you don’t ever call
Waiting patiently, we just need to talk
Take a break for me, take a break for me
Wooah oh oh
You and me need more than average
I don’t think you understand
That’s why i’m working all the time
Bare man trying to reach my line”
Odunsi (The Engine) — what gives? How do they even come up with these names? — is one of the few Rhythm and Blues/Soul singers we have in Nigeria. This song is the usual affair, except it is a love song with a potential break up.
The song starts with a soft instrumental, a piano playing. Then Odunsi starts singing in a slow soul serenade style. The song brings back memories of songs from the early 2000s.
Odunsi came through in the vocal rendition of the song. We enjoyed his performance. It suits the song and he put in a nice performance.
The melody of the song is a slow Rhythm and Blues sound with a touch of soul. It was quite melodic and tuneful when we were reviewing the song.
There were times we struggled to actually hear what he was singing as there distortions in his voice. Perhaps this was due to the filter, mixing or something else?
