A Love Song

SONIC SOUL!

“I will fight for you (yeah, yeah)
Only if you need me to, yeah
You know see I got you, yeah, yeah, yeah
Tell me if you got me, too
Tell me if you got me, too, oh
Say me I don’t know why
But me never stop thinking about you (yeah)
About you (yeah)
Can we got this thing tied up?
Can we got this thing tied up, no?
Know this thing is inside us
(Ooh ah, ooh ah, ah)
Baby, can we got this thing tied up?
Can we got this thing tied up, no?
You know this thing is inside us
(Ooh ah, ooh ah, ah)”

Major Lazer has basically been on tour in Africa working on a mixtape titled Afrobeats Mix and he has produced a lot of rather unique and interesting songs that could be potential hits if only the fans could be more open-minded.

Positives

A nice way to start a song. The sound of waves in the background was nice and it gave it a realistic feeling. Mr Eazi's intro is not bad itself and it was able to give us a general feel of the song. All in all, it was not a bad intro for the song.
It is apparent from the lyrics of the song that it is a love song. We were able to get the message behind the song without any trouble and the lyrics of the song itself were quite decent.
The vocals of this song are one of the strong suites of the song. The vocal rendition was on another level from what we are used to listening to. In fact, Mr Eazi put in a wonderful performance and he kept us craving for more at the office. Raye's vocals were just subliminal and it got us mesmerised like how a sirene mesmerises sailors.
For the first time in what seems like forever, we got the closest we have ever gotten to an Afropop Mr Eazi. He did not sing with his more traditional Banku style but he was able to adapt his sound to match Raye's more pop sound with his Afropop sound. The melody of the song sets the song well for a great harmony, tuneful and memorable. We enjoyed every part of it.

Bottom Line

This is a lovely song with a matching video, lovely vocals and great melody. While this is not your traditional Nigerian sound we feel like it was a great fusion with a Western sound and a Nigerian one.
