Gaaga Muzik head-honcho, Larry Gaaga join forces with lyrical titan, Vector to premiere a new track titled Decide. Decide is the official soundtrack of the ‘MTV Shuga’ series. It also serves as Larry Gaaga’s fourth offering of the year. He is set to release his forthcoming project soon, but before then, let’s listen to Decide.
PS: Please read our review on Ycee’s Dakun here: Review: Ycee – Dakun
If you listened to Ycee's Dakun, you would observe a lot of similarities between the two records. Both songs brought out the same concept of trying to blending Afro-pop and hip-hop uniquely. They both had a similar drum riff, with a dominant 808 sound. The only major difference was the chord progression and the key of both songs.
When it comes to the song composition, Decide has a better melody and all-round singing than Dakun. Vector delivered a smooth hip-hop chorus, singing in a low octave that suites his vocals as a rapper. The lyrical composition was amazing. Vector went on to talk about 'Decision' and explained why its the most important thing in life.
Why are we comparing? Well, this is a relatively new sound. it is more like Afro hip-hop rather than the conventional Afro-pop sound. It is a smooth blend of Afrobeats and hip-hop. Although this sound has been on for a while with Ycee's 'Omo Alhaji' being the most prominent song, the growth of this sound cannot be denied and we will love to hear more takes like 'Decide'.
Decide is a groovy yet conscious record. We advise everyone to listen.
