Gabriel Afolayan, the prolific Nigerian Rhythm and Blues singer has digressed a little bit from his slow soul serenading sound to a more upbeat hybrid of Hip-Hop and Afropop. Of course, Gabriel Afolayan was able to sneak one or two nuances of his trademark Rhythm and Blues sound. The song is a cover of DMX’s then hit, “What They Reall Want” featuring Sisqo
"What do you want" starts with a prominent drum sound and some other instrumentals playing. We liked the feelings the intro of the song was able to evoke.
"What Do You Want" is a cover of DMX's then hit featuring Sisqo, "What Do You Really Want"? The lyrics of the song are average and decent. The structure of the lyrics is not bad.
Gabriel Afolayan managed to merge the Hip Hop nature of the song with his soothing voice and oh boy do we like the result. The vocals of the song are subliminal. It evoked emotions in us.
We absolutely liked the blend oof Afropop and Hip Hop genres in the song. What is even more impressive are the subtle Rhythm and Blues influences here and there. At the of the day the song is a sonorous and lovely affair. We enjoyed every part of it!
The instrumentals of the song also managed to impress us. we liked every part of the song from the beginning to the very end of the song, It was not overly loud and it is quite rhythmic.
Gabriel Afolanyan could have done better with the plot development of the song. That would have been a welcome improvement.
