Fireboy DML is literally on fire and apparently, he does not plan on letting up. We still cannot get enough of his debut song and e are already being treated to a new track. What if is another love song that has a very relatable storyline. In this song, he talks about possibilities with a certain girl he is in love with. It felt like he was fantasising what life would be with her. Every single one of us has done that at one time or the other so the song resonated well with us.
The intro of the song is quite peculiar. It was sung in Yoruba and it also gave us this native South African vibe. We loved the Yoruba sound at the beginning, it was something relatively new and unique.
The storyline of the song is very relatable. It talks about the love story of Fireboy and his feelings for a certain girl. We liked the plot development of the song and we enjoyed every part of it.
Fireboy's vocals were clear and crisp, we had no issues hearing what he was singing. His vocal rendition was also impressive.
What if I say is a song with a great melody. It is tuneful and melodious. The heavy influence of Afropop is apparent in the song. The rhythm of the song is impressive. We liked the varying ranges of the song and the overall harmony of the song.
The intro of the song could be hit or miss really especially for those that do not understand Yoruba, they could have easily decided that the song is predominantly a Yoruba song and lose interest. Whereas, that was the only part of the song with Yoruba in it.
Fireboy has managed to give us a great song just as he did with Jealous without sacrificing much Lyrical quality, unlike a certain Wizkid soundalike. It is without a doubt that Fireboy will be going really far in the music industry and we cannot wait to see him grow and become a titan. We are excited at the prospect of that possibility as he seems to be enjoying a lot of love from fans currently.
Fireboy has the potential to lead the next wave of musicians in the country. He has a very clean sound and matured lyrics. His sound may not appeal to some audience who like the “noise” that has been promoted the last few years. His style is soothing and measured.
Interesting. Who would you pick tho? Rema or Fireboy?
