Spell is the second track on Fireboy’s sophomore album, Apollo. The record was produced by Pheelz and features Wande Coal.
Pheelz made a very groovy Afro-pop instrumental with heavy drum patterns and simple pop chord progressions. The subtle guitar riffs were an added plus to the beat and whole vibe of the record. The song started with Fireboy chanting some rhythmic scat singing with a soft falsetto (Micheal Jackson-esque). I immediately knew we were going for a groovy ride with this record. Fireboy delivered a smooth pop performance with his unique vocals. Wande Coal was the highlight of the record as he brought his nostalgic falsetto at the refrain of his verse. The lyrical composition matched the melodic composition as the dreamy chords and vocal melodies complimented the story of a woman's enchantment.
The overall production was good as the vocals were clear, audible, and well-balanced with the beat.
