A song that addresses the issues in churches
2
SONIC SOUL!
“We gullible to the core
If you drop all you got
It’s impossible to be poor
Put your hand in your purse
Give everything to the church
And I promise you
The Lord will come knocking on your door
It’s funny when you say
I’m moving like an unbeliever
It’s ironic you tell me
To be my brothers keeper
Take our offering set up Uni
And your church members can’t even afford the school fee”
Falz really did not come to play this year. He has gone full activist on us and not just against the government and day to day societal problems. Heck! even the church was not spared. This song title “Amen” addresses some apparent problems in the church.
The song starts with an intro from one of Fela's songs. Falz went ahead to sample Fela's song in this song also and it was a nice way to start the song. It did keep us interested long enough to want to listen to the remaining part of the song.
Falz employed the use of satire and sarcasm throughout the song. mocking the pastors that insisted that one's blessing was directly proportional to the amount of offering they gave. He talked about a lot of issues happening in the church mostly monetary.
The melody of the song is lovely. Hardcore rap mixed with Fela's Afrobeat. It was sonorous to our ears and we enjoyed every bit of it.
While the church does have a lot of problems as anything humans are involved with. It felt like some of the accusations were rather harsh.
The song lacks a video to push it further into relevance.
There are so many problems in the church and Falz addressed all of them. However, we should be aware that not everything is black and white, there are always some grey areas.
