This is a very unique take on the Afro pop genre; melodically, instrumentally and even the arrangement. The most distinctive part was the arrangement. It didn’t take the regular pop route of verse-chorus-verse-chorus-refrain/bridge-chorus. Instead, Oxlade ignored verses and sang 3 different refrains before the chorus. This made the song very precise and interesting, as it makes you want to repeat it. The instrumental was good. Percussions were mostly used and even the main melody was a xylophone sound. Oxlade sang with beautiful melodies and his falsetto/head voice that he used for the chorus was perfect.
Although the melody was sweet, it lacked flow dexterity. The melody was too straight forward and we would have loved switch-ups here and there. Apart from that, the song was good.
Oxlade is definitely on our radar as a potential superstar. Listen to this song and some of his other works.
