London based Nigerian singer and songwriter, Davina Oriahki recently released a single which she titled ‘Tears’. The song was produced by Tiwa Dara. Tears is an afro- soul fusion.
Tears is an afro soul track with soft instruments playing. Tiwa Dara was able to express emotions using soft chords and ambient in the production. With influence from both western and local music, Davina’s managed to pour emotions and character with her vocals. The 90bpm instrumental starts with soft chords, and claps with drums followed by Davina’s vocals. The song is a story of someone going through a low phase in life, crying out all that has been held back.
This song is quite depressing to listen; the title alone explains the theme of the song. It’s music for the melancholic or the socially awkward. It’s quite boring, as there is no unique melody or something that will make you repeat the track, unless of course, you can relate to what she sings about.
