“People dey ask me say, wetin dey make me smile?
I tell the whole world say, na you be my life
And if them argue say we no go last reach night
I tell the people say you no fit kill Starlight
Hmm hmm hmnn”
Cobhams! Cobhams!! how you make us fall in love with music. We mean actual music and not the noise we are so used to hearing. We recently reviewed One Hit and we really loved it. We certainly love this song also. A lyrically deep love song. You know, the song gives off snow white type of love in all its glory. Okay let’s go straight to the review, shall we?
The intro beat is beautiful, we loved the instrumental that played at the beginning. It served as a lovely forerunner fro Cobhams. Cobhams himself started the song with much passion, I mean when you start a song with "I fit fight for you" you get us all hopelessly romantic and hooked!
The lyrics are deep, I mean saying stuff like "you no fit kill starlight". Okay, you need to listen to the preceding and subsequent parts of the song to really get the intensity and depth in the lyrics of the song. We were able to tell what the song was about from the very first line, it was straight to the point, no absurd abstract lines or irrelevant starlight.
Cobhams vocals are clear and crisp, they pass across the message of the song via empathy. Call us crazy but that was how we felt, the song got us all emotional unless of course, you have the emotional range of a teaspoon. The passion and authenticity in his vocals were palpable. It felt like he was singing the song for his wife.
The instrumentals of the song are well balanced and varied, in fact, it sounded very natural and smooth.
The video did well to portray the message in the song. We were actually in a euphoria believing he was actually engaged to the girl in the video.
This song is, by all means, a great song, however, many Nigerians do not appreciate true talent. The only negative about the song is that it has not gotten up to a million views, not even two hundred thousand views. It's sad really.
