A perfect blend of different genres
2
Cheque is a young grinding artiste that his adept at making sure hip-hop doesn't go extinct in Nigeria, and you can hear that in his craft. He is always known for cutting the thin line between Afro-pop and hip-hop with his unique style and this is no different. Masterkraft made a perfect blend of Afro-pop and club-trap, two of the best genres of both worlds. It was evident in the RnB melodies, dancehall chords, Afro-percussions, and trap-infused hi-hats and 808s that Masterkraft and Cheque were in it for innovativeness. Cheque delivered quite an impressive performance, combining all the above-listed genres into his performance all at once! His vocal dexterity was trap-esque, his melody choices were RnB, he spoke a little patois, and he had that Afro-pop bounce. The blend was smooth and perfect.
The overall production of the record was a little awkward as I listened closer. The vocals were louder than the instrumental and it was really pronounced. It looks like the gain knob was lifted higher than usual and this brought out a lot of surround noise that might have happened during the recording process.
