SONIC SOUL!

Burna Boy is probably having the best year of his career, after enjoying so much success last year. It does not seem like he plans like slowing down any time soon. He plans to dominate the industry like the Giant that he is. He may very well end up being the very best artist of the year. However, a certain Brown Skin Girl singer or an other Blow My Mind singer may have one or two things to say about that claim. The competition is stiff and that is okay. Gum Body is the fifth track on the African Giant project, he features British singer Jorja Smith in this love song.

Positives

Gum Body starts with an instrumental playing followed by Burna Boy singing. There was little room to dwell on the intro of the song as there as hardly any intro in the song.
Gum Body is a classic love song. It talks about a girl Burna Boy likes and met in probably a bar or a club. We found the storyline of the song amusing with a little bit of comic relief. The structure of the lyrics is good enough. However, the shining light is the plot development, we liked it.
Sharp, precise tonguing is needed to make this much sparkle, and close attention must be paid to the dynamic contrasts between Burna Boy and Jorja Smith's vocal performances. The track creates a smooth, rhythmic, driving, angular sound that is quite contemporary. the freshness of sound, absence of musical clichés, colourful work, use of sonorous pedal-points, the crisp and smooth combination of Afrobeat and passive pop genres.
