[Intro]
Telli me down

Tell ’em Africa we don dire
So here comes the African Giant
Many, many people don’t try ah
But you can’t test the African Giant
Emi omo’logo logo
Who no getti person wey me no know
Making dem loko oh no
Make you no dey do like otokolo
[Verse 1]
See nobody do it better‚ better than me
Can’t nobody do it better

Because anything wey better require planning
Don mi don mi o
Nothing you can do
Because God no give you
More than you can handle
Na so dem mama go bella
‘ebelebe lo’
Na so dem papa go hala
‘ebelebe oo’
Ogododelugo chi chi (3ce)
Ele li le le oo
Ogododelugo chi chi (3ce)
Ele li le le oo
[Hook]
Tell ’em Africa we don dire
So here comes the African Giant
Many, many people don’t try ah
But you can’t test the African Giant
Emi omo’logo logo
Who no getti person wey me no know
Making dem loko oh no
Make you no dey do like otokolo
Telli me telli me down
Telli me telli me telli me down….
[Outro – Igbo native tongue]

The African Giant is out! A lot of excitement for Burna Boy’s new album titled the “African Giant”. The first time we ever heard Burna Boy refer to himself as an African Giant was when the names of the artists that were supposed to perform at Coachella as early as the second of January of this year. After the release of the listing, Burna Boy was not having any of it and insisted his name was supposed to be written in bold fonts and not just in small font as an irrelevant small act. He insisted he was an “African Giant”. It is unknown if it was this event that prompted Burna Boy to name his new album African Giant or he had always had the name in mind and it just seemed like a perfect opportunity to unleash the name. African Giant is the name of his album and the front lining (number one) track on the album.

Positives

African Giant starts as we expected it in our heads. A slow-paced tempo intro with serenity which transitions to a more midtempo track. The intro of the song is quite appealing and engaging.
Burna Boy talks about how we are tired of being sidelined and how it was our time to shine. He seemed to believe he is going to usher in the new era as the African Giant. We liked the message of the song. Filled with positivity and positive thinking. The lyrical structure of the song is not bad either. However, the track could have done with a better plot development.
The melody of the song got a strong influence from Afrobeat and highlife. It is rich in sound. With a tender expression and an excellent composition with appealing sound dynamics, balance of tone, and phrasing. The contrast in scoring makes this piece a first-rate choice to open the album.

Bottom Line

The rich and resonant brass and the crisp and exact percussion dominate the scene throughout, as the main theme (African Giant) is somewhat developed.
