A rich Afrobeat song
2
SONIC SOUL!
Opinions have been flying everywhere on social media and off social media on the best song on Beyonce’s “The Gift: The Lion King” album. Some insisted Wizkid’s Brown Skin Girl (the caption has gone viral already on social media platforms) is the best song on the album while a good number choose Burna Boy’s Ja Ara E as the best song. We cannot wait to start our review as many expectations have been placed on this song. We hope we do not end getting disappointed though.
You can listen to the song below
We liked the beginning instrumental and then the array of rich instrumentals that followed. Then Burna Boy went full Afrobeat on us! We loved the intro sound, it was filled concentrated Afrobeat, so much so that we were reminded of Fela immediately!
Burna Boy's vocals were just about perfect for the song. It gave the song an angular and sharp sound.
The melody of the song is where all the sauce went to. Burna Boy relied more on Afrobeat in this song with occasional fusion sounds here and there. In terms of melody, Burna Boy managed to deliver and it was an impressive performance.
Ja ara re has very engaging and indigenous instrumentals. We liked the rich representation of the |Nigerian culture by the instrumental of the song.
The lyrical structure of the song is not that great and the plot development is in fact poor. We had expected more from Burna Boy only to be disappointed.
