Oh Lord of Mercy, oh Lord of mercy, oh Lord of mercy, Kaye mi ribi Messi”

9ice is really pushing and striving to become relevant again. He has released a couple of singles already and the next thing could be an album. This new song Mercy is just one of the many singles 9ice has released for our listening pleasures. The song has some lyrical depth. It highlights some of 9ice’s desires and dreams. We all know 9ice is no longer the force he once was in the music industry and he is really struggling to get the attention of the fans. This song is him basically asking God for Mercy, hoping his time of success will come soon.

Positives

The song started with a very catchy beat, this beat caught our attention, it did want to make us continue listening to the song.
The lyrics of the song is quite deep, it touches on the desires of 9ice to enjoy the success he was once enjoyed in the music industry.

"Oh Lord of Mercy, igbawo loun re a kan mi o"
This basically means God should have Mercy when will it be his turn to be great?

"Oh Lord of mercy, t’on ba pin owo, eje ko fi kan mi, eje ko fi kan mi"
He was saying in this line that when they are sharing riches, it should also get to him.

The song is an expressive one, it touches on real-life issues 9ice himself is going through. Furthermore, at some point, he was able to get through to us with his vocals, we could hear the raw emotions in his voice.
The melody of the song is not bad either, it is a well-tuned song, it scores a decent rating in our melody test.
The instrumentals of the song is well balanced and rhythmic, it did keep us engaged especially at the beginning part of the song.

Negatives

At a point in time, our attention began to wane, even though the beat did well to catch our attention at the beginning. We could not help our mind straying away.
Furthermore, we had to listen well to the song to actually start enjoying it and we were able to enjoy this more with the audio. It seemed like the video was just distracting us from getting the depth of what 9ice was singing in this song. This also points to the fact that the melody of the song is not a catchy one and at best it will only score an average rating.

Bottom Line

Not everyone will understand what 9ice is talking about in this song and it is okay,
While this song will not really give him the stardom and success he craves for, it is lightyears ahead of the previously reviewed song; "Wahala Dey"
What are your thoughts on this new song from 9ice, how does it compare to Wahala dey?
