Maleek Shoyebi was born on the 11 August 1987 is a Nigerian record producer and singer widely known as Maleek Berry. He’s one of the UK’s rising producers and singer born in the heart of South London. He gained recognition in 2012, he was nominated in the “Music Producer of the Year” category at the 2014 Nigerian Entertainment Awards. He is a fast rising Nigerian producer, song writer and singer who as worked with prominent artists such as Wizkid, Davido, Ycee, Runtown, Goldlink, Wale, Iyanya. The ace Nigeria song star grew up listening to some of the biggest names in R&B from Tevin Campbell, Boyz II Men, Jodeci and the one and only King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
He was only 14 years old when he started doing music professionally breaking into American’s music industry.
He started his career fully while he was still residing in London, Although, worlds apart from the shores of London, this did not deter him, but rather spark he’s ever growing love for the music industry. He started singing in the church, where he formed a music group with his two close friends. Managing to get their hands on a little pre-production setup like Fruity Loops. Soon after setting up the music group they started writing, producing and performing their own songs at various events at the ages of 14 and 15 only to break up at 16. After disbanding, he didn’t give up as he was the brains behind a lot of the group’s records and they all remain very close till this day.
In early 2009, the fast rising Nigerian singer and producer started working seriously on his career at the same time working on getting his grade. He was juggling his music career with his formal education, attaining a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, learning to play the piano by ear, which has played a major part in the maturity of his sound. Along, the line he met IKES, a rapper from North London and they began to work together and in no time they became partner in their aligned interest. He has produce records for some of the hottest UK acts such as S.A.S, Bigz, Scorcher, Jermaine Riley (Formally of FDM) and the list continues to grow as we speak.
He started getting attention but he wasn’t satisfied with only working on his home turf, but wanted to spread his wings to the Motherland. In the year 2011 he traveled down to Nigeria for a family holiday, utilising the trip he connected with some big stars in the game that changed his status to international producer. Coming to Nigeria, he met Davido and was able to connect with other Nigerian super star like Wizkid, Naeto C, Wande Coal, through the initial.
He was behind the production of one of the biggest hit straight out from Nigeria ‘Carolina’ in 2011/2012′ by Sauce Kid featuring Davido. This song was a welcome back for Sauce Kid after he took a short break from music just after releasing his hit single ‘The Matter’ featuring Wizkid. The ace Nigerian entertainer is currently signed under Wizkid Star Boy Entertainment and has since produce such as ‘Baby Hello’ for Wande Coal, Finito for Iyanya and ‘Ye Play’ for UK Afro beat star Fuse ODG.
He did his elementary and secondary education in London; he also obtained a Bachelor Degree in computer science before he dived into his professional music career. His music career kicked off in the church where he was taught how to play piano before forming a group with his friends.
