A solid rap project
Early 2019, legendary rap group Show Dem Camp released the 4th path of their clone wars series tagged, These Buhari Times. The album sits on the top of the table as one of the best albums of 2019. Here’s our review.
The group, Show Dem Camp, have found a way of bridging regular afrobeat vibes and hip-hop and appeal to everyone's musical needs. They've consistently released two series of projects. The first being Clone Wars (which has 4 installments) and Palmwine music (which has 3 installments).
Clone Wars IV is a beautiful and well-arranged rap project that mostly consists of socio-political topics. No wonder the sub-title was "These Buhari Times." Content is key people!
Everything about this project was well thought off, well structured and organically arranged. Spax did a madness with the production on the album. He infused African sounds on every track to give us that sense of afro-feel. Ghost and Tec will always be in th top 5 rappers conversation list, as they waived their way through the album with sub-conscious lyrics talking more about life in Nigeria and the current state. Flows and punchlines were not too much, but it was on point. They just talked more. The features of the album were the highlight as they got all their features right. Their A&R did a great job with the collaborations. I hope they cleared the Kendrick Lamar's 'Money Trees' sample on 'Hunger Cries'. My standout track was 'Duade' featuring Cina Soul, where Masculinity and depression were addressed. Cina Soul's scintillating vocals complimented the rap verses on the record.
I think everyone should go listen to this project.
