A Melancholic album about love.
It’s no longer news that one of Africa’s biggest exports musically, in the person of Asa, recently released her fourth studio album which she titled ‘lucid’. In May she released her first single off the studio album ‘The beginning’ which gained lots of attention from music lovers worldwide.
An album art tells the audience about thirty to forty percent of what the album is all about. Asa’s album art told us what we should expect. It depicts a shy melancholic lady who is arguably depressed due to the inability to find love. The fourteen track album with a run time of forty-seven minutes is melancholic-like music with a well written and arranged lyric with classic production. Asa did solo work on this one as she didn’t ask for help from anyone; she featured no one but herself.
Lucid is the kind of album you listen to when you want to reminisce, work, study, do yoga, or travel a long distance. Asa’s emotional display on this album is excellent; she always manages to carry her audience along with her music.
Some of the outstanding tracks you should put on repeat are
• Track 1 ‘Murder in the USA
• Track 2 ‘The Beginning’
• Track 6 ‘Happy People’
• Track 8 ‘Femi Mo’
• Track 12 ‘9 lives’
It’s advisable not to listen to this album if you’re just recovering from a terrible relationship. Most of the songs on the album lament about bad relationships. Lucid is not your ideal fun ‘let’s party’ album.
